In and around the farm there are plenty of activities for all tastes:

Welcome to Hisved a farm in the county of Hälsingland, Sweden.
Sweden is a country where almost everyone can speak English and are happy to show and to help you explore the things that interest you. The silence and clean environment makes our farm the perfect place for relaxing and a place for you to take care of yourself and your family.

Experience the spirit of an old Hälsingegård in the Swedish countryside, a loghuose built in the 1840´s. The walls are decorated with old wallpaintings made in the later parts of 19th century and you can make open fires in the kitchen and the dining room. The house is renovated to keep the spirit of the old days but and is equipped with all the modern equipment you need. The environment around the farm offers a lot of opportunities for exercise. Go for walks in the forest, go for a run or take the bike for a ride.

The farm is located in the village of Långhed who is known for its large and beautiful farms (of wich two have been nominated to be included on UNESCO´s list of world herritages.). Some of these farms are possible to visit in a guided tour where you can admire the beautiful, ancient wall paintings.

Trevor Breen impressions of the farm
"Most Swedish people are pretty good at English so the language is generally not a problem for English speaking people visiting Sweden. If you’ve been living in a town the first thing that hits you is probably the quietness. The farm is in a small village far from industries and big roads surrounded by forests, lakes and fields. It takes you about eight minutes to go to Alfta by car where you find most of the things you need. If not, the town of Bollnäs is about 30 minutes away where you can go clubbing and buy the things you can’t find in Alfta. The summers are usually great with lots of sun and an all green countryside. Warm temperature in summer makes the water perfect for swimming and in winter time there is snow and a thick layer of ice on all the lakes."

Our community is famous for the many “farmers castles” which is old, huge wooden houses with extraordinary wall paintings. The houses are from the 1800's when the farmers in the area were very rich thanks to the successfully grown linen flower that was used to make linen. We’ll tell you more about these houses when you arrive if you’re interested in them. You will also find a lot of crafts here in the area.

A great place to go to is Jarvzoo where they have all the predators’ native of Sweden such as bears, lynxes, wolverines but also other native animals like mooses, owls and reindeer. The zoo is open all year around.

The year changes
June – August are what we call the summer months but it’s usually very nice in May and September too. Then comes the autumn with lovely colours and dropping temperature and the first staying snow usually falls in December. This basically means that we have a white Christmas almost every year! The winter means a lot of fun for people that like to be active outdoors and it is a really beautiful time of the year to visit our home. The spring arrives usually in March or April, everything looks pretty grey and dull when the snow has melted but after a few weeks the countryside changes to light green witch becomes darker the longer summer goes on.

Summer, spring and autumn activities
You, who want a quiet getaway can easily relax with a book in the sun, go for a walk, a run, bike ride or a swim. As mentioned earlier we have great fishing water nearby; spin fishing, fly-fishing or if you’re a bit lazy just fishing from a boat with a line, worm and hook. If you’re into canoeing or want to try it for the first time we have some of Sweden’s best canoeing waters in the river Voxnan close by. Even if you’re not interested in the canoeing, the river is still worth a visit with its beautiful surroundings at Hylstrommen and Vinstrommen.

About 300 meters from the house is the small river Hässjaån which is very good water for catching bass in particular. If you enjoy fishing you are welcome to borrow the boat and try your luck at fishing.

About 4 km from the farm is a nice sand beach at the lake Enstabosjön.

Winter activities
You can go ice-fishing, snowmobiling, cross-country and downhill skiing. The local downhill skiing is not as in the great ski resorts you’ll find in the Alps, they’re shorter and perfect for families and beginners but you who already know how to do it will still have a great time there too. If you’re lucky someone will give you a ride on a snowmobile an excellent way to see the countryside and especially the forests, absolutely one of the best things to do. There are plenty of sports activities to go and see like the local ice-hockey team, snowmobile motocross, another ice-skating game called bandy and floor ball just to mention a few.

The village's community centre also hosts a cosy summer cafe.

Our municipality is known for its large peasant castle so why not look at our architectural culture with beautiful paintings on the walls, for example, homestead farms in Alfta and Edsbyn.

Summerdays and winternights
Sweden is a country with great variations in the nature over the course of a year.

Welcome to experience the long days and the bright nights during the summer when you can swim and fish in our clean beautiful lakes and rivers.

Welcome to experience the dark days during the winter with snow, ice, stars, the northernlights and a chance of trying almost every winter sport there are. On the same lakes we swim in during the summer, you can now ice fish, skate and ski.

Take a trip by horse and carriage around northern Långhed with neighbour Diana who also has pony rides.

Listen to the silence of the forests and see a beautiful nature with a rich wildlife of creatures such as wolfes, bears, moos, beavers and lynx. The fishing are excellent and we can arrange a boat if you’d like to take a trip on the stream down by the house.

Experience the freedom of “allemansrätten” “All mens rights” which means you have the right to walk around in anyone’s forests for example to pick berries and mushrooms. You are also free to swim in our lakes and go for walks around the rivers and the lakes. As you do this however, you have the responsibility to treat the nature with respect and keep it clean. There are parallels to this right in the other Nordic countries as well as in Scotland.

Picking berries and muschrooms
The autumn presents a great time for experiencing the quietness of our forests. This is the time to go out into the woods to pick berries and mushrooms. This year (2009) turned out to be a great year for picking blueberry and cranberry. You could easily go out for a couple of hours and come back with loads of berries (anywhere from 10 to 20 liters of berries per person). The berries can be sold to a local store, or you could eat the lot, or clean them and take them home to your freezer.

Animal Life
At our farm you have the wildlife just around the corner. Summer and autumn nights has the bats flying across the yard and if you are lucky you might hear the fox bark out on the fields.
A trek into the woods can give you the opportunity to spot a number of different kinds of animals, but you have to be quiet and carefull not to scare them. Another way to spot animals is to sneak up on them with a canoe as it silently glides alongside the water front.

As you see, we have much to offer. WELCOME!
